Seasonal Festivals
ESY NOLA brings a seasonal approach to learning and celebrating at Green Charter and Arthur Ashe Charter Schools. As the schools rebuild themselves post-Katrina, ESY NOLA is creating new school-wide traditions by incorporating seasonal growing, cooking and eating at every opportunity. At our Fall Festival, ESY NOLA staff and volunteers led a “Taste of Louisiana” booth where students learned about the history of local foods such as sugarcane, pecans, and soybeans. At another booth, ESY NOLA prepared and served mulled apple cider, and homemade caramel apples. At our upcoming Winter Festival, a citrus tasting will be held where 7 different kinds of citrus will be shared by students and families. 5th and 6th graders will lead the citrus tasting for the rest of the school, after they go to a local Citrus Grove and pick the seasonal fruits.
