Education for Life
The mission of FirstLine Schools is to create and inspire great public schools in New Orleans. FirstLine Schools prepare students for higher education and fulfilling careers by providing a rich variety of educational experiences to nurture students' social and emotional development, love of learning, and aspiration to achieve their educational and career goals. To achieve this end, students are exposed to a variety of people, places, experiences, and ideas as a means of cultivating their awareness and broadening their lives. The Edible Schoolyard New Orleans embodies this philosophy by creating enriching, hands-on experiences in the Edible Garden and Edible Teaching Kitchen.

ESY NOLA serves 460 students in grades K-8 at Green Charter School. The student population for the 2009-2010 school year is 98% African-American, and 98% qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.
