Family Food Nights
At Samuel J. Green Charter School, Arthur Ashe Charter School, and Joseph S. Clark Preparatory High School, we have family-dinner style Family Food Nights. At these events, students and families are invited to cook together with food from the garden and learn healthy meal and snack recipes. Families leave with full bellies and ingredients to prepare a dish at home.
At Langston Hughes Academy and Phillis Wheatley Community School, we host expo-style Family Food Nights with fun, hands-on tables from organizations from all over the city. The Crescent City Farmers Market, New Orleans Public Libraries, Slow Food Youth NOLA, and Youth Run NOLA often join us for these family nights. There are always lots of activities and snacks to try.
Family Garden Days
Family Garden Days welcome FirstLine family and friends into the school garden for a Saturday of fun activities. Families can cook and enjoy garden-fresh food, and learn more about gardening. Everyone joins in on light garden projects like planting seeds, making bouquets, and harvesting food from the garden. Family Garden Days take place 2-3 times per year at most schools.
